AUA GIS and Remote Sensing Lab provides mapping capacity to the American University of Armenia Center for Responsible Mining (AUA CRM) and has developed a number of maps that depict total mines and tailings, actual mines and actual tailings, and areas with geologic exploration permits and mining exploitation permits.
The 3D videos show areas of mining activities and include: mines in brown, tailings in red, processing facilities in orange, and settlements in gold; orange lines represent roads and blue lines show rivers and streams.
The following maps were developed within the scope of Independent Environmental Monitoring of Mining Communities project executed by AUA Center for Responsible Mining. Soil and drinking water samples from 27 schools and 25 kindergartens of 10 mining or mineral processing communities throughout Armenia were analyzed with the results and locations presented in a number of maps below:
